Nebraska City Public Schools Foundation Awarded $1.3 Million for Scholarship Endowment

Thanks to a generous donation from the Richard and Melinda Kleineweber Trust, the Nebraska City Public Schools Foundation has established the Richard and Melinda Kleineweber Scholarship Endowment Fund. The gift, in its entirety, is to be invested in the endowment and the earnings will provide sizable scholarships for graduates of Nebraska City High School. Rojean Earhart, NCPS Foundation Board President, says the Foundation anticipates awarding $150,000 in scholarships in the next 18 months.

Starting with the Class of 2025, students will apply for the scholarship their senior year of high school. The recipients, upon successful completion of their first year of college, will receive a minimum of $5,000 sent to their institution for their second year. Graduates of the Class of 2023 and 2024 will also have the opportunity to apply for the scholarships. President Earhart explains that the Foundation Board did not want to wait until August 2026 to help students. Earnings from the endowment will allow an estimated $40,000 to be awarded to recipients from the Class of 2023, $50,000 to recipients from the Class of 2024, and $60,000 to the Class of 2025 and beyond.

The Nebraska City Public Schools Foundation Board of Trustees is excited about the impact this endowment will have on NCHS graduates, their families, and the community. Supporting Pioneers along their educational journey has been a mission of the Foundation since 1989.
