Nebraska City Public Schools
COVID-19 Update
3-25-2020
COVID-19 Closure Extended through May 1st
Nebraska City Public Schools will be extending the COVID-19 school closure through May 1,
2020. This is a precautionary measure to help prevent the spread of coronavirus in the
community and surrounding areas. In additional to Nebraska City Public Schools, all schools
in the Educational Service Unit 4 area (Otoe, Nemaha, Johnson, Pawnee, and Richardson
counties) will be extending their closures through May 1.
The extension through May 1 will provide NCPS and state health and education agencies
time to monitor the impact of local and statewide precautionary measures on the spread of
the virus. Should the health threat of the virus expand, it is possible that NCPS may stay
closed for the remainder of the 2019-20 school year. Please understand that no decision
past May 1 has been made. We would very much like to finish the school year with
teachers and students in the buildings, but may not be able to do that.
This decision has been made with the highest level of seriousness. We acknowledge the
challenge this places on our families, and each school will be engaging their families to help
address their educational needs. A decision of this magnitude would not be made if we
didn’t feel that it was absolutely necessary to help ensure the safety and general welfare of
our community at large.
